It would be nice to be able to edit the tabs etc. in our own languages! -

Hi everyone,
Please take a look at this topic to learn how to support multiple languages on your site: http://support.webs.com/webs/topics/h...
Hope this helps!
Matt-
Hi Matt.
Thanks - but the link only gives me a "page not found".
However, I found out that I can edit to my own language on the tabs by clicking "PAGE OPTIONS" and then "RENAME PAGE". It works.
Sidebar can be edited also.
(The above written for people who can't access your link.)
Thank you for your quick reply. -

Sorry about that - here's the correct link: http://support.webs.com/webs/topics/h...

Hey Guys,
Have you tried the Google Translator Widget? Learn more about it here: http://blog.webs.com/2010/03/18/googl...-
Irina, we need something that wont mess up our template and change right back everytime we change pages, for example if you use Google translate, the click on Sign in, the translate tool turns off, or it's impossible to sign in at all.... we need this to be official... or at least have a way to change all of the default words like Sign in - Register ect...

My site is in Swedish, intended for a nordic public, but unfortunately the system can not maintain the format of the three letters we have that is unique for the Swedish language. If you made this slight change possible, you could reach another 10 million costumers with your excellent services.

Although the google translater is a usable tool, it has its drawbacks. Writen in the intended language by the builder gives the best wordchoices and sentence builing fit for the website. Also, it has the tendance to translate names.
Happy building -

I agree with Johannes Gårdbäck (see above): My site is in Swedish, intended for a nordic public, but unfortunately the system can not maintain the format of the three letters we have that is unique for the Swedish language. If you made this slight change possible, you could reach another 10 million costumers with your excellent services.
Wi also want to use the Icelandic special characters!

Webs.com clearly has an issue with its encoding. It says ISO-1 which should be fine for all Western European languages but neither German nor Swedish letters seem to work. Pretty bad!

aww..thats bad!

Translate Tools mess up templates, and make it impossible to do certain actions on the site unless getting out of the translate tool :( we need to be able to change default words our selves.
-
Totally agreed.

Yes, I work in English and when the customer goes to view my site they change it to their language. Is that how it works for you? I think it is great for me, the English speaking person, but do some people want to work in their own language? If that is the problem, I think it might be best to try addressing it with google or so.
-
-
I only speak english, but I am shocked that this isn't already on here. The ability to translate your entire page to another language should definitely be considered.

Please, add international characters support (including Cyrillic!) ASAP. I have no problem typing the text of my pages, but I cannot change the title of the page (e.g., Home, About Us, Rates and Services, etc.): everything that I type there turns into question marks. I want ot stay with Webs and upgrade to a Premium Package, but if there is no Cyrillic support I will have to search a different service. Thank you!

I am really disappointed that Webs hasn't fixed the character encoding issues. SiteBuilder does actually support Unicode for foreign language characters, but for reasons which can only be attributed to sheer stupidity, the resulting pages are served with Content-Type: "text/html; charset=iso-8859-1". If they just changed it to "text/html; charset=utf-8" all the problems with foreign language characters not appearing correctly will instantly vanish as if by magic. Come on, Webs, this is literally a one-line fix. Get to it already!
-
Foxpup, changing from ISO 8859-1 to UTF-8 encoding requires an extremely large amount of work, including re-encoding our entire database. It is not as simple as changing a single line of code. We are currently looking into this upgrade and will be sure to provide more details to keep everyone updated in this topic.
We welcome all suggestions that you have to improve Webs and any questions you may have, but please refrain from posting hostile comments in the future. Thank you! -

Guys of "webs". I have a HUGE complain, that many other people have about your platform infrastructure : There is no way to support correctly any other language that uses different sets of characters than english. I'm Greek and i' ve builded up a web site for our Astronomy Friends Club (Kos island, Greece). I have to live with part of the site in Greek and part of the site in English. For example, there is no way to see Greek in "menu". Most of sidebars' goodies also, are showing correctly only in English. I JUST CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY DIDN'T YOU THINK OF "WEBS" AS A GLOBAL PLATFORM. I just can't understand why was (and still is) for you, to support other character sets also, like Greek, or Cyrillic, or Japanese, or ... whatever. A modern site-building platform MUST support all these languages, like all browsers do. Wordpress, Blogspot and other platforms DO support every language. It's so much a pitty indeed to face these kind of problems. I really like your platform, but this problem is very frustrating. If you don't care about giving to all of us a solution, i will probably move away in a year or so. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!! I've recently paid upgrade to premium member and i think i have the right to get support!
