A number of users have reported problems with staying logged in as they edit their sites. They log in, then are directed to the screen for logging in again.
We have not been able to reproduce the issue, so we need your help in tracking this down.
If you have been experiencing this problem, please reply to THIS topic (don't create a new topic) and provide the following information:
1. What page you tried to log into first.
2. What you logged in with - username? or email address (WebsID)?
Do NOT provide your password here!
3. What you did just BEFORE you got the login screen again.
We also need the details of your computer set up.
Please go to this link to get them:
http://supportdetails.com/
We need to know the:
Operating system
Web browser
Javascript
Cookies
Flash
And either the IP address, or the name of your ISP (internet service provider) and what country you are logging in from.
We need to see what settings are common with users who have this problem.

I've been talking to one of the top engineers, and he is not able to reproduce the issue. I have been able to, but only on my home computer, and only a few times - I can't reproduce it consistently, so it makes finding the source of the error a little harder.
He is requesting more information from you guys and from me, as well:
WHEN this error occurs:
1. Note the time. We need to know EXACTLY (date, hour, and minute) when this occurred. Please give us your time zone so we can get the time correctly.
2. Log back in. If you can manage to log in again, go to the Site Settings in your account and look at the number that shows up in the tab at the top of the page:

If you cannot manage to log in, that's okay, just give us the time you had the error.
While we are working on a solution, you can get around this error and still log into your account!
I've posted this before, but it looks like people didn't see the alternate solution.
Download Firefox - this error appears to be related to IE, NOT Firefox.

Until we get the problem sorted out, that is the method you can use to edit your site. -

just created a new site "ultimatepersonalitytest" and full of ideas on how to develop it but.... gutted... keep getting logged out. This is when clicking on various links within the hosting pages. And I'm using Fire Fox! So this problem does not seem to be limited to IE. :(

So. I log in to the main screen and it brings me to the Dashboard. I click on the site I want to edit and it asks me to log in again. Everytime i click on "Create a Site" it brings me to the screen where you first sign up and enter the information that you'd like for your new website.
This is EXTREMELY frustrating please fix this as soon as possible, as I'm in a hurry with the site I need to make and I do not have time to sit here and twiddle my thumbs.-
Garrett, This is a different problem.
In this case, use Firefox, rather than IE, to create the new site. Either that, or refresh the page to get past that error. This is only a problem with one version of IE when using that link from the dashboard. -

I don't have this exact problem, Webs just won't remember me. I check the "Remember Me" box when I sign in but if I close and re-open, it's already signed me out!

Same happens to me! Webs had remembered me 25 days ago but now the account remembering system got nuts!

OK, I log into this site; http://members.webs.com/s/webs/;jsess..., I click on the button "Edit this site" it takes me back to the log in page.
I log in with my email address
Answer to question 3- I clicked on the "Edit this site button" I have logged in and edited the site within the last month using this method.
You might consider internet explorer 8. I did recently upgrade from 7, not sure if I did the previous edit from 7 or 8.

Hi Guys
I started having this problem last week and could still get into site builder..but from today I can't even even get into site builder it just freezes as soon as I press on the pages to edit. Worried that some guys have had this problem for a month. I have 6 premium sites and all are rendered useless at the moment so webs are casue me a bit of embarrassment at the moment.I must have faith cos they do eventually fix problems but this is a biggy I feel. Fingers crossed it will be ok in the morning.-
This looks like a different problem. If the problem persists, create a new topic.

I've been having this problem and I am *really* angry. I've been a member for less than a month - a paying member, no less - and I have a time-sensitive, fundraising page for a charity function. I cannot edit my page or see my stats or anything.
I went to www.webs.com and entered my username (leslieswalk) and password. As soon as the main screen comes up, it loads with errors and I get the sign in request at the bottom. If I try to check stats, it boots me into the sign in screen...over and over. If I try to edit, it does the same thing.

I can't edit *any* page. Or anything else. The second it logs me in, it kicks me back out - the message appears at the bottom of the screen that my session expired and I need to sign in again. And again. Some days it works and other days - many, many days - I am unable to log in. I just keep getting the "Whoops!" screen. Just ask me how cute I find that....
My billing has been a mess and my website is rarely accessable. As soon as my marathon is over, I'll be cancelling my account. -

Hi
In my experience when Webs get a problem it is never cause by the user and webs do fix it eventually. This is a shame as the concept of the site is brilliant provided it works. I too am on time sensitive projects and have paid for 6 sites. I just try to stay cool and pray to god they can fix it. There are no images on any of my sites and I just wish someone would come on and give us some hope.
If this isn't fixed tommorrow I'm up the Swannee River without a paddle and my credibility is shot.-
I'm seeing a problem that started a month ago, a "company participator" who stopped responding to people six days later, and no indication that there's an end in sight. Right now I'm paying for a site that I cannot do anything with - I can't even change my personal account settings. That makes me extremely nervous.

I found it so odd that this problem has not been fixed. I haven't logged in in a couple of months and I had this problem today. It's now been a month since this prob was reported????

rfin, Sometimes issues can be difficult to track down. With 20 million accounts, this login problem is VERY unusual and not widespread. We needed more information in order to understand what the commonalities are with the people having the problem. The engineers are aware of the issue. Please provide the information I requested from all users with this issue. Thanks.

Yeah,Sure Caroline.By the way,I reported previously,and I am again saying.
The Member Logon is showing problems. Please reply so as to tell me that you are working on the problem. As you already know Caroline, there has been a blockage for the .webs sub-domain in India. So users in India are using Opera. But none of the users in abroad(As much as I know)are facing these problems. This leads to two ideas 1)Opera is the problem, but as for IE,it may be that both these browsers are on the same basecode OR 2)Its in India only, for what my site is concerned. These are the details:-
Computer OS-Mine is Windows Vista
Web Browser-In India,Opera Elsewher(Where there is no problem),Firefox,Safari,Google Chrome and nearly all others
Javascript-I dont know.As much as I know, they remain ON and are updated to the latest version
Cookies-Mine is enabled. My users have also enabled(I think so)
Flash-Always the latest, both me and my users(Obviously enabled)

I have two sites with webs.com and have been having problems getting in to edit them for quite some time now. I go to webs.com and enter in my email address (hopscotchluna@hotmail.com) and password then click the log in button. This brings me to my dashboard where I can see both websites I have created. I am having this same problem. I open up the webs page in my browser and log in. I get to my dashboard but when I go to click on one of my pages to edit I am taken right back to the log in screen. I have this happen all the time. I hate webs because of it. I wasted and entire day that I took off today to update my site only to get NOTHING done because of this crap. I hate webs - this happens at least once a week to me.
Bunch of crap and I am so pissed I took the day off and got nothing done AGAIN because the site is looping me to log in again and again. It started this morning at 9 am and now it is 5:54 and I am still experiencing the same problem.

I NEVER have any problems with my weebly or myebiz.com sites. Ever! But I have it at least twice a week on webs.com.
It makes me laugh how they are always coaxing us to vote and say they are the best when actually out of my three sites (weebly, myebiz, webs) - webs is the only one that never gets updated because every time I take a day off to update it - it is down.
NEVER AGAIN! -

it's recurring. It was happening to me a year ago, then it stopped.

I have a problem that when I close my tab, I have to re-log in even though it's supposed to remember me. So I leave my tab open and when I have to close my laptop it's supposed to stay open but logs out. up to about 3 or 4 weeks ago It would always re-log me in (remember me)-that was very convenient and well appreciated.

This is webs problem and they should have fixed it by now they often do in the end. No need to give pc info etc. That's just a waste of time. Fotunately I only have to log in twice so it doesn't stop me working but it still annoying and it's been like it for 3 months

the last time I reported it I was told to refresh my cache..dooooh Obviously I didn't bother cos it clearly would never be that

Hi everyone:
I too have been very frustrated by this. However, I have found a recent solution that has been keeping me logged in.
As soon as I sign into my account, instead of clicking on anything to edit, I click on the red 'Logout' button in the top right corner right away. This then takes me right back to the log in page with a 'Tell your friends about our site!' banner across the top. From here, I log in again and am now able to begin editing. I don't know why it is working that way for me but over the past two days, I have done it this way 4x and it works. If I don't do it, and I go to click on something to edit, it knocks me back out again. I am logging in with my user name. I have not tried logging in with my email addy.
I hope it works for you too and at least provides a temporary solution to whatever is really going on.

Cheryl, I don't know what you mean by a Yahoo browser. Yahoo has toolbars and browser add-ons, but that's not a browser itself. Please try using Firefox - http://www.firefox.com - if you have problems with it, make sure you are accepting 2nd and 3rd party cookies. That option is in the TOOLS section of the browser menu.

We are trying to track down the cause of this error. We haven't been able to reproduce it, but I do notice that it's happening to users with IE8.
Please try logging in with Firefox. Let us know if the problem persists with Firefox.
This is not a widespread issue, although I do see that a number of you are experiencing the problem, at least some of the time. The more information we can get from ALL of you, the better.

Hi there,
I was moved to this topic but don't think I should be here:
I CAN sign into my account/website to edit, but CANNOT just log into the actual site as a user - neither can my members - www.night_world.webs.com
...Should I be in this topic? If so, then I'll find the relevant info you're asking for and get back to you.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't edit my website. I logged in and clicked Edit This Site and it kicks me back to the login page. I've erased the cookies and temp internet files and all that, the Privacy settings are set to accept All Cookies. So it isn't that, although that did work the first time this happened. It isn't working this time.
I'd REALLY appreciate being able to edit my own site. I realize it's free and so doesn't come with many perks... but I feel like being able to use it reliably should be standard issue.

Well the temporary fix is to use another browser other than Internet Explorer, the Aol browser works too, seems that any browser will work that doesnt go to the broken dns ip, webs needs to call there isp to fix it, problems at the cable internet line comming in from the provider, could be a bad port in the phone closet, seen a similar problem with the at&t provider for another company. Problems like this is almost always at the hosting servers.

I have been trying to login to my site since Friday. I have used my iphone, Firefox and Internet explorer. Nothing works and it seem like there is a lot of wrong information put out in this forum. Will someone please fix this problem.

Caroline this is Jerry Carey and my website is "abcps.webs.com" and I can't log onto my site. My ISP is Atlantic Broadband. I believe they buy their internet service from AT&T. I can't login with my iphone, Internet Explorer or Firefox. I have a friend that was able to login with Verizon, so, I know the site is still up. What is being done to address this problem if it is with AT&T? Can you do a work around their filter by changing something on your end? We need to have this resolved. We post important information for our Photographic Society on the site.

Caroline, my web site is localcommunity.webs.com. My first attempt was at approximately 8pm EST tonight. In Firefox 3.6.13, I am able to log in from the home page at http://www.honeybrookevents.com. After clicking on the "manage website" link, I am directed to re-enter my password, and the popup never clears.
If I log in from the webs.com website, using my e-mail address johnhepler@hotmail.com. I can select the site from my dashboard, and arrive at the site manager page. But if I select any of the options at the top of the page (Manage Pages, Edit Website, etc.), I get a rough error page:
____________________________
Unauthorized Access Error
You don't have permission to do that!
Chances are you've ended up here in error.
You may wish to go back from whence you came.
If this problem persists, log out of Webs.com by clicking here, then sign back in and resume your activities!
_________________________________
I just logged into Webs.com using IE 6 and am able to access all features. I tried to log in on http://www.honeybrookevents.com and can't even finish the login process. I am returned to the homepage without a login.
I tested the web site using Safari 3.2.1. I was able to log into webs.com, access my dashboard, select one of my websites (localcommunity.webs.com) and select all of the management functionality.
Using Safari to log into my site (localcommunity.webs.com) from the URL www.honeybrookevents.com, I was not able to log in, experiencing the same response as with IE 6, being unable to complete the login process.
Despite advice posted above, this is clearly not related to one browser only. I am more than a little surprised and disappointed that this problem has been apparently been going on for weeks and the Webs.com staff report they can't duplicate it. I just spent 65 minutes testing in 3 different browsers in two different operating systems on two computers, one XP the other Vista, and I can.
Now I have unhappy customers who cannot access their site to update pages, I have spent over an hour billable time troubleshooting problems that are neither mine nor my clients', where do I send my invoice?
Respectfully,
John Hepler -

Hello John,
Your issue may not with with the Webs.com system but with how you are attempting to manage your site. I see you have a domain honeybrookevents.com which is not fully attached to your site. In viewing your WHOIS information, it seems your domain is registered via Godaddy and redirected to your Webs.com site. Since this is the case, this will effect if you attempt to login via honeybrookevents.com. Try logging in via http://localcommunity.webs.com. If you want to log in via your domain, you will need to attach to your site by changing your nameservers to ns1.webs.com and ns2.webs.com. For detail instructions go to - http://support.webs.com/webs/topics/f.... Use the topic for DNS Hosting. -

After I click the save button it goes to this page http://members.webs.com/Members/Dispa... and just stays there nothing happens except the blue bar keeps moving across. I've also noticed that webs freezes momentarily in every browser i've tried causing the whole browser to not respond for about 2-3min.

Its not just the webs clients that undergo this issue. It's any visitor visiting the site, including myself as an owner that experiences this issue. Basically what happens is if you were to get on the site and log yourself in, if you were to visit any other sites or anything other than that webs site, when you came back to the webs site it asks you to log back in even though you never logged out, "HOWEVER" I noticed that even though it asks you to log back in, you were never logged out, if one were to click home page or any other page on the site, it would show they are already logged in. So the problem isn't the staying of being logged in, the problem is a visual annoyance. A big time confusion for those not familiar with this issue. I'm not sure if its a bug or what exactly it is, but if webs could fix this...would make me and all my users much more happier.

Hi Jacob,
Thanks for providing those details. Unfortunately this has been an ongoing issue for some time now.
I'm glad to hear that you're still logged in, however I can understand how much of a frustration this issue could become.
I have added that information to the ticket with our engineers. It's something that will take much longer to fully deduce and resolve.
However you comment has helped greatly. Thanks!

1. What page you tried to log into first:
http://members.webs.com/s/webs/ also: http://www.webs.com
2. What you logged in with - username? or email address (WebsID)?
the144eliteworld@yahoo.com
3. What you did just BEFORE you got the login screen again: I've been attempting to login for a couple of weeks now. I think the first date that I couldn't log in was Monday, Sept. 19th, when I clicked my bookmark link to got the webs.com. I have attempted to log-in from the start of opening my browser as well, several times. I have been able to log-in on my netbook, oddly enough...lol. But on a screen so small, I can only do so much....lol :>- view 1 more comment

Hi Ashlei, thanks for your response. If you're using a mac, there may be an issue with the version of the OS you're using. If you're using a PC, you may want to try clearing your cookies to insure that you're not seeing a cached page.

I hate to jump in like a employee, but what operatin are your users on? I found my female friend had the same problum. in the recent 5 to 8 weeks, I found that the site would give me this errer. but It's always backed off.
My guess is that It's the desifgn + the operating system. My friend was using a linux, with the errer disallowing her to join. when I invited her, She couldn't log in.
Details of my site:
address:
http://flashgamerszone.webs.com.
admin username: Gemini! -

It's SOOO simple!!!
Hay, I might have your solution!
Do any of these members have facebook? if they do, they can connect there accounts and log in that way! -
-
Oh, (Gemini, where talking about STATYING Logged in).
Sorry, I was just wasting time. but with all this time, and nothing to do, I just edit and create sites. and help others occassionally. -

I'm having problems logging in too. Whenever I log in, I am asked to choose a domain name. This happens every time. I usually click on the back button several times until I get to the site I want to edit. What should I do to fix that?
Secondly, I have been editing one of the sites I created previously, but now I realize that it is not under the domain name that I selected. Rather, the name is comprised of some arbitrary characters, and is not listed amongst the names I created. That means I have to resort to hitting the back button again to get back to the site I was editing last.
I really need a solution for these issues. Please help! -
-
Hi Mercedes,
I would suggest clearing your cache to resolve the login issue.
To Clear Cache: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Bro...
Unfortunately, the site that has been created with the numerical characters must be deleted and a new site must be created. You can follow that issue on this topic: http://support.webs.com/webs/topics/u...
Thanks!

VERY frustrating.
My own site won't let me log into it! I type in the right password. I swear it. It brings me right back to the home screen, and it STILL says, "Log In" and "Register!"
What's going on?!?!?!?-
Hello,
Thanks for contacting us. Have you tried clearing your cache? If you're unsure how to do so, you can follow the instructions here: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Bro...
Hope that helps! -
